What do you “do”? I currently work for a community college in Knoxville, TN. This is my first time working in higher education and I’m loving it. I work in the library building and am surrounded by a blend of students, staff and faculty. This environment has an energy all of its own and one I’ve never before experienced. Everyone here seems to want to better themselves and/or help others do the same. Previously, I worked remotely for Blackbaud, the software company that makes The Raiser’s Edge and the Financial Edge, which are platforms used in the not-for-profit world. That was a fun job because I got to work with some amazing non-profit organizations. Before that, I worked in the radiation detection industry and medical software industry. That’s the one thing I love most about working in IT – the skills cross industries amazingly well.

Tell us a little bit about your family… I have an 8 year-old son and a husband of 13 years. My son is amazing (of course) and loves video games and karate. My husband is a handyman, but formerly a trained chef, so I eat very well at home.

Do you have any pets? Yes! We have two dogs (Max (Maxwell Smartt for anyone old enough to get the reference) and Gromit (of Wallace & Gromit)), two cats (R2 & 3PO) and a turtle named Tiny Tim (cue the adorable children singing … I had a little turtle, his name was Tiny Tim…)
